The Hospital Incident Command System, or HICS, is a system created by FEMA based off of the Incident Command System used by public safety agencies. This shows a clear channel for command and control of an incident by qualified individuals and helps ensure that anyone in an emergency incident knows who they are reporting to. There are four online courses for HICS; ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 that are recommended for all healthcare professionals to take. Most facilities require at least 2-3 of those courses to be completed. Links to these courses can be found by searching for HICS on your web browser.

HICS may be called HEICS (pronounced Hikes) in some facilities. This stands for Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.
